One-Liners That Helped Shape my Life
NOTE (1/12/18): We’re all learning and growing. Some of the stuff I’ve written in these old posts may no longer be exactly what I believe or think, or at least may not be articulated the way I’d do it nowadays. I preserve them in an attempt it to be transparent about my journey, and in the hopes that readers may still glean some insight from the core ideas found here. Thanks for journeying with me!
On my former site Funkonventionality, I had a page dedicated to quotes that I liked. A lot of good came from updating to my current site (most notably, the ability to pronounce its name) but I still want to have those quotes out there, along with some new ones I haven’t shared yet. The Bible, of course, contains numerous quotes that I reckon changes lives as well, but judging by length constraints and the fact that you can read the whole Bible elsewhere on the internet, I’ve included only those that I believe compliment the truth that the Lord offers through the Bible and His Spirit. Enjoy these spiritual morsels, but, in all seriousness – eat slowly.
When you truly know who you are, you will never be jealous of anyone else.
-Eric Johnson
If you love you like God does, you won’t be afraid of others getting to know you.
-Kris Vallotton
I am not willing to work harder on your problems than you are.
-Danny Silk
(and, if I may quote another Silk-ism, even though he probably wasn’t the first one to say this – when a situation or a problem occurs and everyone is freaking out, all you have to do is ask, “what are you doing to do?” Thanks, Danny!)
Of all the truth there is to know in the world, how much do you think you know? 10%? 5%?…
-Brother Yun (from The Heavenly Man)
If you don’t live for the praises of man, you won’t die by their criticism.
-Bill Johnson
Be the change you want to see.
-Gandhi
Everyone has dreams, world changers have plans.
-Unkown
I can get more out of God by believing Him for one minute than by shouting at Him all night.
-Smith Wigglesworth
A man is as dead at 36 as he is at 80 when he refuses to stand up for that which is right. The cessation of breathing is just a belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.
-Martin Luther King Jr.
Love the one in front of you.
-Heidi Baker
Most good things have been said far too many times and just need to be lived.
-Shane Claiborne
Have you noticed how much praying for revival has been going on of late & how little revival has resulted? We have been trying to substitute praying for obeying, & it simply will not work. To pray for revival while ignoring the plain precept laid down in Scripture is to waste a lot of words & get nothing for our trouble. Prayer will become effective when we stop using it as a substitute for obedience.
-A.W. Tozer
David was a volunteer…What [David] was after was the fight. Anybody can have Saul’s daughter, and robe, and armor, and money for him; what he wants is to kill the giant, drive the Philistines, and show heaven, earth, and hell that Jehovah is the King of kings.
-William Booth, Salvation Soldiery p. 9
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to join ranks with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much, nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.
-Theodore Roosevelt
